Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit (YHROCU) and South Yorkshire Police jointly hosted a LRO (Lead Responsible Officer) event in Sheffield.

The event was held at Niagara Conference Centre last week (22 May) and included presentations by officers and staff from the Home Office, YHROCU, South Yorkshire Police, Violence Reduction Unit and the Regional Organised Crime Threat Assessment Unit (ROCTA).

In the absence of national LRO training; this event is being delivered by the YHROCU across the four regional forces to fill that gap, ensuring there is a consistent approach to upskilling LROs, plan owners and supporting roles in managing and disruption Serious and Organised Crime (SOC).

The event also focused on the importance of galvanizing support from partners and community assets in the fight against this criminality and afforded them to look at SOC not only from within the local communities they serve, but also from a wider regional, national and international perspective.

Around 80 officers attended on the day and heard from a variety of speakers, giving them a better knowledge and understanding around current national and local serious and organised crime threats, also covering key topics around prevention and intervention.

Inspector Emma Summerscales, from the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit, said: “This event was aimed at LROs giving them an opportunity to come together and hear from a panel of experienced officers and staff sharing best practice, insights and case studies. I would like to thank all our speakers who attended and shared their wealth of experience and knowledge around identifying, disrupting and dismantling serious and organised crime.”
