This morning, officers from the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit, working alongside the Immigration Service, carried out warrants at two addresses in Oldham.
A 37 year old man and a 42 year old woman from Nigeria, currently living in the UK, were arrested on suspicion of fraud and money laundering offences.
During the warrants, officers recovered multiple mobile phones and laptops, all of which have been seized and sent for forensic examination.
Since 2025, NWROCU officers have been investigating a series of frauds in which victims reported their personal information being used to open new bank accounts and applications for overdraft facilities made without their knowledge. Funds were then transferred to external accounts, leaving the newly opened accounts abandoned.
Both suspects have been taken to a local police station for questioning.
