Two men have been arrested in connection with an investigation into the importation of more than 300kg of cannabis.
Officers from the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU), supported by colleagues from Thames Valley Police, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary and Border Force, made the arrests on Friday (8/5) in Wembley, London.
The men, aged 42 and 35, were arrested on suspicion of importing a controlled drug, namely cannabis, and remain in police custody. A third man arrested as part of the operation was released without charge.
Officers discovered a significant quality of cannabis at Heathrow Airport on 5 May.
Detective Inspector Dean Garvin, of SEROCU, said: “These arrests are part of an investigation into the large-scale importation of cannabis into the UK.
“The South East Regional Organised Crime Unit work closely with partners and we will use every tactic at our disposal to disrupt and dismantle these gangs and help reduce the blight of this type of criminality”.
If you have any information about drug-related crime, please report this to your local police force via the 24-hour non-emergency number 101 or via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
