A drug dealer has been jailed for more than three years after being caught in a taxi in Coventry with 1kg of heroin.
Keren Kumar, aged 32, was in the back seat of the Toyota Prius when it was stopped on Jimmy Hill Way on 4 November last year.
He was searched at the roadside, and officers found a small amount of heroin in a piece of paper hidden in his sock.
Inside an Asda bag near where he’d been sat in the taxi was a zipper bag containing just over 1kg of heroin, with an estimated value of up to £23,000.
Kumar was arrested and denied any knowledge of the drugs, but went on to plead guilty to possession of heroin with intent to supply.
Kumar, of no fixed address, was jailed for three years and six months for possession of heroin with intent to supply when he appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on 25 April.
The investigation was led by the Regional Organised Crime Unit for the West Midlands (ROCUWM) and is part of Operation Target, which is our 24/7 mission to tackle serious and organised crime across the region.
We’re disrupting, arresting and bringing to justice those involved in guns, drugs, money laundering and exploitation across the region.
