A drug dealer has been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison after 12 kilograms of cocaine was uncovered in an investigation by the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU).

Richard Minchington, of Jersey Close Southampton, was sentenced on Tuesday 28th April 2026 at Southampton Crown Court for being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

The 37-year-old had pleaded guilty to both offences at a previous court hearing on 7th January 2026).

This sentencing follows a vehicle stop on the M3, in which police officers located 1kg of cocaine. Officers stopped another vehicle containing Minchington and carried out search activity resulting in the discovery of a storage container in Southampton which was linked to the offender.

In the container officers identified a further 11kg of cocaine, and multiple items of paraphernalia indicative of large quantity drug supply. These included a 20-tonne hydraulic press, multiple electronic scales, vacuum packaging, utensils coated in white powder and large tubs of mixing agents.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Daniel McCarthy, of SEROCU, said: “This sentencing marks another significant step in dismantling a dangerous organised crime group. Minchington was actively engaged in facilitating the supply of Class A drugs, which devastate lives and communities.

“We will continue to pursue those who think they can profit from the misery of others. Our message remains clear - if you are involved in drug supply, expect to be caught and to face lengthy prison sentences.”

Members of the public are encouraged to report any information about drug dealing in their area. Call the 24-hour police non-emergency number 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
