Created in 2010, the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) operates across the seven police forces that make up the Eastern Region - Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Norfolk, and Suffolk.
ERSOU is made up of a ROCU and a Counter Terrorism Policing unit, which respectively manage the threat of serious and organised crime and terrorism across the region.
Comprising more than 850 police officers and staff, the unit has bases across the region, including within each force area.
ERSOU ROCU leads the response to organised crime across the region.
Working closely with local forces, external stakeholders and partners such as the NCA, the ROCU tackles and disrupts organised criminality such as drugs and firearms importation, cyber attacks, large-scale fraud, and much more.
The team's work has also been showcased several times on Channel 4's 24 Hours in Police Custody.
ERSOU’s counter terrorism policing unit aims to manage the threat of terrorism across the region.
Part of the national counter terrorism policing network, ERSOU CTP contains investigations and intelligence teams, along with colleagues specialising in prevention, training and several other disciplines.
The unit has a presence across the region, including at busy ports such as London Stansted Airport and London Luton Airport.
